Cosmic Star Formation History and Deep X-ray Imaging in the Xmm-newton and Chandra Era

چکیده
I summarize X-ray diagnostic studies of cosmic star formation in terms of evolutionary schemes for X-ray binary evolution in normal galaxies with evolving star formation. Deep X-ray imaging studies by Chandra andXMMNewton are beginning to constrain both the X-ray luminosity evolution of galaxies and the logN–logS diagnostics of the X-ray background: I discuss these in the above context, summarizing current understanding and future prospects.

Active Cores in Deep Fields
Deep field observations are an essential tool to probe the cosmological evolution of galaxies. In this context, X-ray deep fields provide information about some of the most energetic cosmological objects: active galactic nuclei (AGN). Astronomers are interested in detecting sufficient numbers of AGN to probe the accretion history at high redshift. This talk gives an overview of the knowledge re...

Hard X-ray observations are the most efficient way to discriminate accretion-powered sources from star-light. Furthermore, hard X-rays are less affected than other bands by obscuration. For these reasons the advent of imaging instruments above 2 keV, has permitted to dramatically improve our understanding of accretion-powered sources and their cosmic evolution. By minimizing the problems of AGN...

Two X–ray observatories, the NASA observatory Chandra and the ESA mission XMM-Newton, provide powerful new diagnostics of the " hot universe ". In this article I review recent X–ray observations of the evolving universe. First indications of the warm/hot intergalactic medium, tracing out the large scale structure of the universe, have been obtained lately in sensitive Chandra and XMM-Newton hig...
متن کاملThe Sources of the X–ray Background
Deep X–ray surveys have shown that the cosmic X–ray background (XRB) is largely due to the accretion onto su-permassive black holes, integrated over cosmic time. The ROSAT, Chandra and XMM–Newton satellites have resolved more than 80% of the 0.1–10 keV X–ray background into discrete sources. Optical spectroscopic identifications are about 90% and 60% complete, for the deepest ROSAT and Chandra/...

We present Chandra and XMM-Newton observations of the composite star-forming/Seyfert galaxy IRAS20051-1117. The X-ray imaging and spectral properties reveal the presence of an active nucleus. The Chandra image shows a strong nuclear point source (L(2 − 10keV) ∼ 4 × 10 42 erg s −1). The nuclear X-ray source coincides with a bright, also un-resolved, UV source which appears in the XMM-Newton Opti...
